Lampadedromia, Puerto Rico 2004 was a performance project created in collaboration with Tadej Pogacar and Peter Walsh for the exhibition/residency PR '04 [Tribute to the Messenger], organized by M&M Proyectos. In light of the fact that Puerto Rico had been a candidate to host the 2004 Olympics, the focus of the art project PR '04 [Tribute to the Messenger], was on the theme of sport, national competition, and the role of the messenger. Slovenian artist and curator Tadej Pogacar invited myself and Peter Walsh to join him in creating a symbolic olympic torch relay across the commonwealth of Puerto Rico. Artists and citizens from the towns were invited to carry the torch for Equipo Terrestre (Team Earth) through the streets of San Juan and on to the town of Rincon (the host of PR '04 and site of the Olympic Village for artists in the project). All were asked to dedicate their "run" to a personal reason, as opposed to the real Olympics, in which athletes run for their nations. A special thank you to all who ran as a part of Equipo Terrestre! To see more images on Peter Walsh's webpage for this project, click here.
